ANRED logo: anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder: information and resources

Welcome. Here is the information you are looking for.

Welcome to the ANRED Web site. We are a nonprofit organization that provides information about anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other less well-known food and weight disorders. Our material includes self-help tips and information about recovery and prevention.

How to use the ANRED Web site

About fifty documents are available here. Check the Table of Contents to see a list of the topics we cover. Print out anything you like, and as much as you like, but please leave our name and logo intact. Also, if you use our material in a report, paper, presentation, etc., please give us credit.

There are two easy ways you can find information on the ANRED site.

  • Number one: Go to the Table of Contents. Find the topic you want to learn about and click on the link that will take you to it.
  • Number two: Begin on this page and read straight through to the end of the site by clicking on the "Forward One Page" links at the bottom of every page

If you have a question after you have read through our site, send it to us. We cannot diagnose or treat eating disorders by e-mail, but we can send you information and help you find resources.

Please note: If you use AOL Mail Preferences or a spam filter, you must add our e-mail address to your OK list. Otherwise our replies will not reach you.

A note about privacy

We collect no information of any kind about visitors to our Web site -- no cookies, no guest book, no statistics, nothing at all. Browse and print out as much as you like in total anonymity. Your visit is not tracked or identified in any way.

If you want more information

We have worked hard to make our Web site comprehensive, but it still must be considered an overview -- although a very thorough one. If you need more detailed information or a step-by-step self-help program, you probably will want to read some of the many books that have been written about eating disorders and recovery. Check the selections in our Bibliography. Some are for people who have eating disorders. Others are for friends and family members. Still others are for clinicians and educators. You can look for these books at your local library or order them online. Click on the title of your selection, or on the picture of its cover, and you will be taken directly to Gurze Books, our colleagues in California who operate an online bookstore (including videos and other material) that specializes in topics related to eating disorders and body image.

Who are we? What are our credentials?

Read about ANRED, our mission, and our policies. Get background information on the people behind the name. If you want to check the credibility of our information, here is a good place to begin. You can also read through the third section of our Bibliography. It contains a list of the reference materials we used in constructing this site.

A postscript about annoying pop-up ads

As you browse our site you may find your screen taken over by pop-up ads for diet products or weight related services. Those ads DO NOT come from us! They appear because your Internet service provider or the search engine you use has, for a fee, allowed advertisers to link Web sites such as ours to advertisements for so-called related products.

In addition, spyware or malware may have been installed on your computer without your permission. Spyware can generate pop-up ads, often for sleazy products and services. We condemn these practices but have no control over them. Thank you for your understanding.

If you want to get rid of pop-ups, go to the search engine Google and put "pop-up blocker" in the search box. Then click on Google Search, and you will be taken to a list of applications that block these intrusive windows. Find the one that seems to best meet your needs and follow site instructions for downloading or ordering.

You also should periodically check for spyware. Put "spyware blocker" in the Google search box, click on Google Search, and select an option that fits your needs and computer platform. Follow site instructions for downloading or ordering.

ANRED has no relationship whatsoever with advertisers who use spyware or pop-up ads, or with providers of pop-up-blocker and spyware-blocker software.

 Warning!

Please Note: ANRED information is not a substitute for medical or psychological evaluation and treatment. For help with the physical and emotional problems associated with eating disorders, talk to your physician and a mental health professional.
